Description

A unique gift for the pirate lover or for a pirate-themed Halloween or birthday party! Black, solid mango wood engraved box includes a 54-card deck of playing cards. Face cards feature famous pirates of the time: Henry Every, Edward England, Stede Bonnet, Charles Vane, Calico Jack, Bartholomew Roberts, Howell Davis, Blackbeard, Anne Bonny and Mary Read. Jokers feature Captain Kidd. Why are card backs blank? Cards from the earlier centuries were blank. But when they were used for poker, it was discovered the blank backs could be marked with a smudge or other discreet marking for cheating. The joker wasn't introduced until about 1875 in the United States. Why are cards numberless? Numbers were first printed on cards around the end of the 18th century. • Natural, authentic, sustainable, eco-friendly and durable painted solid mango wood. • Box dimensions: 3-1/2" x 4-3/4" x 1-3/4” • Deck of 54 four-suited pirate-themed cards • Intricately engraved • Antique brass lid latch

The brass items are always great of a quality and do well for us. The historic trading cards are packaged in a way that doesn't reflect the higher price point. The few times we've branched out into other products we've been let down by the quality and value. And to be fair, we were able to return the one item that was damaged - so the customer service has been great. The brass is quality so we'll keep coming back for the brass, but will limit how much we branch out to their other products.

these are too small to be of much use to play cards with and printer on just cheap paper they'd just rip and muttle up on first use. huge disappointment was hoping for cards that could be played with it would have been a big seller for us.

Hello. Thank you for your comments and orders. These cards, as the product description notes in the first sentence, are a "reproduction deck of 18-century 3-1/2" x 2-1/2" cards, printed on matte, heavy-weight, aged card stock". You are correct noting the cards are smaller than contemporary playing cards of today, but they ARE an accurate size representation of the era in which playing cards originated. The paper stock is custom sourced and also representative of the paper weight or thickness used during the 18th century. The paper color, while not exactly identical, is as close to accurate as possible. We regret that these do not meet your expectations but felt an explanation of the production process might provide a better understanding. Thanks again for your comments and order.
