Against it, the kiri crest is executed in kinsai: gold metallic painting applied by hand over the base embroidery, with vermilion accents that deepen to orange under warm light. The kikkō tortoiseshell hexagon framing the motif is a secondary auspicious symbol — the geometry of long life. The black gives the composition its weight. The gold gives it its rank.
