Description
Black revolutionary Assata Shakur worked with the Black Liberation Army in the 1970s. She and countless others became targets of the U.S. government's COINTELPRO program for their work towards racial justice. \n \nAfter the U.S. sentenced her to life in prison for a murder she did not commit, Assata escaped and fled to Cuba. She lives there in exile to this day. \n \nWhile she was on the run, supporters hung signs from their windows saying, "Assata Shakur Is Welcome Here!" (The case of Angela Davis inspired similar hospitality). This poster represents a modern take on her legacy.
