The famous character was imagined by Cécile de Brunhoff when she told stories to her children in the evening, and later her husband Jean brought the little elephant to life by illustrating the very first album of Babar's adventures for their children. It was then their son, Laurent, who followed in his father's footsteps and illustrated the subsequent albums.
