"Ill met by moonlight, proud Titania." William Shakespeare, A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act 2, Scene 1 Oberon is the king of the fairies, and Shakespeare's version is no benevolent woodland spirit. He is calculating, powerful, and territorial. He moves through the forest like something ancient, something that was there before the trees. This piece shows him that way. He stands barefoot on forest earth, dressed in gold armor and a deep red cloak, antlers rising from his crown. He holds a staff. His expression is patient in the way that only the very powerful can afford to be. For the pagan community, Oberon maps naturally onto the Horned God archetype, the lord of the wild hunt and the deep wood. This print works in that context as well as any other. It belongs in a home library, a study, a pagan altar space, or any room where you want presence on the walls.
