There are objects that immediately evoke a region, a tradition and a way of life. This stoneware mug transports us to the heart of Alsace, among half-timbered villages, vineyards and popular festivals. The high-relief decoration features a young couple dressed in traditional Alsatian costume. The young woman's famous black headdress, the delicately modeled facial expressions and the raised glasses suggest a warm convivial moment, a festive evening where friends toast beneath the beams of an Alsatian inn. On the reverse is revealed a landscape of half-timbered houses dominated by a medieval tower, recalling the charm of the region's historic towns. Made of polychrome glazed stoneware, this mug charms with the richness of its modeling, the depth of its reliefs and the softness of its glazes in honey, brown, green and black tones. The handle, sculpted in the spirit of a branch, reinforces its authentic, artisanal character. Placed on a shelf, it attracts the eye and invites touch. More than a simple service object, this mug is a true testimony to 20th-century Alsatian folk art. It will naturally find its place in a collection devoted to regional arts, the brewing world or as a warm decorative element in a kitchen or a characterful interior. 1960s–1970s. Height: approximately 13 cm. Very good condition. The reliefs remain sharp, the colors are bright and the glaze retains all its luster. No cracks or restorations. The interior is clean. Discreet signs of use under the base attest to its age.
