Aurora Borealis (in the Northern Hemisphere) or Australis (in the Southern Hemisphere) is an incredible light show caused by collisions between electrically charged particles released by the sun entering the Earth's atmosphere collide with gases such as oxygen and nitrogen. The lights are seen around the magnetic poles. With this data visualisation, we counted the average maximum daily Kp Index by year (1932-2020) in Finland, Northern Hemisphere. The Kp number is a system for measuring the strength of auroras. The Kp number ranges from 0 to 9. The higher the number, the stronger the aurora and the more likely you will see the northern lights from places further from the magnetic pole.
