The Herrenalber blend is a full-bodied, aromatic roast and our popular “home variety”. Tailored to the hardness of the Herrenalber water, we have tailored this ETTLI coffee directly to the needs of Herrenalber. Water hardness always goes hand in hand with pH value. Hard water is more alkaline. For this reason, the fruit acids found in Arabica coffees are neutralized by the alkaline character of hard water. In addition, the hardness-forming minerals develop an undesirable side taste. That is anything but desirable. Soft water up to 6°d, on the other hand, is rather acidic. In extreme cases, even cream curdles. Fully softened, i.e. acidic water intensifies the sour taste of acid-intensive types of green coffee, light roasts or quick-roasted coffee.
