Description
This coin is engraved after the Aztec Sun Stone, a representation of the five eras of the sun from Aztec mythology. After the Spanish conquest, the monolithic sculpture was buried in the Zócalo, the main square of Mexico City. It was rediscovered on 17, December 1790 during repairs on the Mexico City Cathedral. The reverse features our Moon's surface texture at a geographically (technically it's selenographically) correct 91,196,160:1 scale. This heavy copper worry stone feels good in the hand and the pocket. The thick coin blank is pre-tumbled before minting for a smooth edge and then given an antiqued finish. Each Sun and Moon coin comes in its own wax-sealed packaging with facts about the art of the Sun Stone, a substantial artifact that gives us a better understanding of the historically significant Aztec peoples. We are so happy we found Shire Post Mint! We stumbled across these copper coins a few months ago, and we finally brought some in. We should have done it sooner, we re-ordered within days and they have been getting lots of attention in the shop :)

I continue to be extremely happy with SPM products. But this review is a nod to their buying policies. I run a very small shop and we don't have room for lots of minimum purchase quantities and high reorder prices that force a small shop to buy more than they can store. SPM is one of those rare shops that participate in the Insider program, have a small reorder minimum AND no qty requirements. I can buy 1 coin or 10. This allows small shops like mine a true control over what we buy. Thanks SPM!
