The headwaters of the Hudson are in the Adirondack Mountains, not widening until it passes Glens Falls and heads towards Albany. This part of the river is close and intimate, with mountains on either side, and provides great opportunities for whitewater rafting! The area is associated with the Hudson River School, a group of American Romantic painters who worked from about 1830 to 1870.
