Sashiko Coaster Cinnabar This coaster is made using Sashiko — a traditional Japanese craft in which a fine, detailed thread is woven through the fabric to increase strength and warmth, resulting in beautiful geometric patterns. Sashiko comes from the Tohoku region of northern Japan, but the craft is disappearing. Mr. Kenichi Ohazama, who trained under Yoshitaka Yanagi, a textile artist and nephew of Mingei movement founder Muneyoshi Yanagi is now the only remaining artisan in Japan making textiles using this process.
