Why does the dove represent peace? It probably stems from a series of Sumerian legends and poems about the mythological hero-king Gilgamesh in the 7th century BC. In one of these poems a dove and a raven are released to find land. Later in the Christian mythologies the dove appears in the Book of Genisis as a symbol and a tool of God.
