About this product
The gopher tortoise is a keystone species, meaning other species in an ecosystem largely depend, such that if it were removed the ecosystem would change drastically. Gopher tortoise burrows provide shelter to over 350 of different animals, ranging from frogs to owls and even endangered indigo snakes. A gopher tortoise will dig several burrows throughout its lifetime, with males in Florida known to dig up to 35 feet. Species on field guide include: 1. Gopher tortoise (Gopherus polyphemus). 2. Eastern diamondback Rattlesnake (Crotalus adamanteus). 3. Opossum (Didelphimorphia). 4. Florida mouse (Podomys floridanus). 5. Bark scorpion (Centruroides gracilis). 6. Gopher frog (Lithobates capito). 7. Six-linded racerunner (Aspidoscelis sexlineatus). 8. Gopher tortoise copris beetle (Copris gopheri). 9. Tortoise shell moth (Ceratophaga vicinella). 10.
