VERITAO is my response to my struggles with Vitiligo. We aim to reform the skincare industry in 2 ways: 1. Change the purpose of skincare - from the pursuit of an aesthetic to a grounding, mindfulness ritual providing calm and balance. 2. Change the design of personal care products - from overcrowded product shelves to a curated set of highly researched, powerful, reusable essentials. 1. We exist to change skincare's purpose from a pursuit of an aesthetic to a mindfulness practice. This purpose is informed by my own personal struggles with my Vitiligo, which started around 5. It made me angry and resentful towards my appearance, I constantly dreamt of looking “normal”, whatever that meant. In speaking with 60+ people before starting the brand, this anxiety is common in many of us to varying degrees. Our skin is a work in progress to address – your acne, your scars, your wrinkles – all things to be “fixed”. We aim for the façade of our bottle to serve as a gentle visual reminder for the user to slow down, breathe, and find calm in their skincare retreat rather than associating skincare with an anxiety-inducing pursuit of a 'perfect' aesthetic. 2. Instead of bloated product sets pushed in single-use plastics, we craft curated reusable essentials - we offer compostable refills for our glass bottles, a first-of-its-kind tech in North America. The pouches, made of wood cellulose and biobased polymers, can be tossed in home or community composts and decompose within 32 weeks.
