Conifer was founded by Evan McDougall, an industrial designer with a combined passion for nature, sustainability, and design. After working across studios in Canada, the US, and Sweden, he saw firsthand how wasteful the product industry can be. He returned to Vancouver driven to do things differently. Every Conifer piece is designed and made in an East Vancouver studio — an old industrial building that's been an autobody shop and a woodworker's studio before becoming Conifer's home. Keeping everything under one roof lets the team hold their standards high and their footprint small. Conifer pieces are made from a plant-based composite of sugarcane byproducts and limestone. The material was chosen for its weight, texture, and surface — and because it produces 70% less carbon emissions than conventional materials. Production scraps are collected and reprocessed into new products right here in British Columbia, so nothing is wasted. All shipping emissions are offset. Conifer takes no shortcuts, believing objects are only worth making if they're made properly.Read their story
