About Cynthia Myers Glass

Cynthia began her sandblasting career in the barnyard of her parent’s farm in Northern California’s Alexander Valley. There in the barnyard was a woman wearing goggles, mask, hood, boots and a coat, she was borrowing Cynthia’s father’s compressor to sandblast a large window. Watching her work and create something of beauty while surrounded by dust and sand flying, Cynthia was hooked! Well, she is a farm girl and dust didn’t scare her! Cynthia taught herself how to carve and sandblast her artwork on glass and now more than 30 years later she still loves her craft. “I am blessed to have wonderful glass blowers that make my vases to carve and etch my artwork on. It’s the light through the glass that fascinates me, carving and etching softens or changes the colors of the glass adding dimension and depth to my artwork.” The glass is first covered with a resist tape then the artwork is drawn on to the tape, the tape is then hand cut with a razor knife following all of the drawn lines. During the sandblast process the lip of the glass vase is “cut-away” at the edge of the drawing then each feather or flower petal is pulled up and sandblasted leaving a bit of shadow that adds dimension. Cynthia hopes that her work will bring you joy and happiness along with beauty in color, design and light to your home.
