According to legend, as early as the 12th century, the city's merchants used delicious black marbles as currency for pilgrims to ease their journey to Compostela. Once the original recipe was recovered, these candies took the name “Grisettes” in homage to the beautiful ladies of Montpellier, who were cute, gallant and dressed in grey. It is one of the oldest recipes in France. According to a legend, from the 12th century, the city's merchants used delicious black marbles as a currency for pilgrims to ease their journey to Compostela.
