Did you know that our respiratory system is responsible for 70 percent of our metabolic waste? Our lungs are the primary organ to cleanse our bodies – and how we breathe can also affect how we feel. Breathing comes to us naturally. It’s such a mundane, normal, and automatic process our body does on its own. However, once you bring in anxiety, depression, and other illnesses our ability to breathe normally can go out the window. Our breath is deeply intertwined with our emotions, which is why our breathing gets rapid and shallow when we’re experiencing a bout of anxiety or panic. It’s the same reason why our breathing becomes deep and relaxed when we’re experiencing a happy or mellow emotion. If breathing can affect our emotions and our emotions can affect our breathing, that means our nervous system, specifically the autonomic nervous system, is heavily involved. The autonomic nervous system is a sum of the parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system. Here at Spiro, we’re no stranger to anxiety. After years of trying many different approaches and remedies, we stumbled upon the magic of breathing exercises. We found that breathing exercises are the most reliable and beneficial method to quell any moments of stress or anxiety. With this device, we are hoping to bring an awareness to the importance of breathwork and how it can benefit mental wellbeing. Read their story
