The tradition of processing licorice continues in Atri in Abruzzo, where, since the Middle Ages, the Dominican friars extracted juice from the roots of plants that grew wild in the area. In 1836, the industrial processing of this precious plant and its derivatives began. Since then, production has never stopped. Today the company is managed by the third generation of the Menozzi family, which became the owner of the De Rosa brand in 1950. Until 2004, production took place in the historic center of Atri, a town rich in history and culture in the province of Teramo. Today the production is in the industrial area of the country, in a very modern plant. The “Menozzi De Rosa 1836” can have over 180 years of experience in the sector and is among the few Italian licorice processing companies founded in 1800 that are still active. The most popular items today are semi-finished products: powder, breads and licorice paste used by the most important Italian and foreign confectionery companies.
