Born and raised in the Swiss Alps – HAE didn’t start as a brand, but as a simple need: a beanie that actually fits. In 2006, after an early-season injury on a snowboarding trip in California, Mat picked up yarn and a crochet needle in a small mountain town and made his first beanie by hand. That moment sparked a movement rooted in self-reliance, local craftsmanship, and alpine spirit. What began as handmade headwear for friends has grown into a premium outdoor brand – still independent, still authentic, and always connected to its alpine roots. We produce fairly in Europe, using high-quality, natural materials like merino, alpaca, and cashmere. Many of our headbands and beanies are still handmade in the Swiss canton of Valais, by local women who’ve been with us since day one. For us, the Alps are not a playground – they’re a way of life. They teach us humility, resilience, and the value of simplicity. They challenge us to ask: Where is the line? Between risk and reason, boldness and caution.
