About Battlefield Lavender

We are Katie and Jason Lockwood. We started Battlefield Lavender in 2016 at our farm just north of the historic Centralia Civil War Battlefield, right in the middle of Missouri. As Jason is a US Marine Corps combat veteran, and our fathers and grandfathers all served in war time (Air Force, Marines, Army and Navy), we have deep respect for those who serve in our military. We thought planting a beautiful field of lavender could be a means of bringing healing and tranquility to the land. We decided on the name Battlefield Lavender. We currently grow 16 lavender varieties, several of our varieties are culinary, and all look and smell amazing in an array of colors and fragrances! We handcraft dozens of products right at our farm, and are always coming up with new ideas to use this beautiful and versatile herb. Our lavender is never treated with any herbicides or pesticides, not even "organic" ones. Lavender is naturally pest resistant, and we hand weed our plants. This creates a wonderful environment for our honey bees, but also for every other pollinator and beneficial insect to enjoy our field. We love finding grasshoppers, praying mantises and orb spiders alongside the bees, monarchs and swallowtails. Battlefield Lavender is carbon negative. We have a 14-kilowatt solar grid-tie system that provides all the electricity needed for our business. We always use recycled bags and packing material, use minimal packaging and either glass or reusable containers whenever possible.Read their story
