Katydid is the creation of Texas designer and entrepreneur Katy Messersmith. Katy’s journey into fashion began in 2002 when she was working at a clinic in Ghana as a volunteer. When Katy’s luggage went missing soon after her arrival, she saw it as an opportunity to get creative. Instead of heading to the closest store, Katy went to work collaborating with a few local seamstresses. Together, they created a collection of colorful wrap skirts and vibrant bags. Since 2002, Katydid has grown into a lifestyle brand of cute apparel, entertaining accessories, and trendy gifts. Katy’s sense of fashion and unstoppable work ethic has turned Katydid into an emerging leader in popular women’s apparel and accessories. Katydid is always looking for ways to give back to our local and global community. We aim to empower women and be a force for positive change in Dallas and around the world. Past charities that Katydid has supported include Dress for Success, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, Suicide and Crisis Center, Kidd’s Kids, and the Fashion Group International of Dallas!
