Zac’s Sweet Shop is a chocolate company making gourmet, innovative, and delicious bite-sized chocolate confections including truffles, cookies, pretzels, and chocolate bark. Visceral flavor has been Zac Coughlin’s specialty for over a decade. The Pittsburgh-native developed a refined palette for baked goods at an early age — his adoptive grandmother was a cake and cookie connoisseur — but the local mall’s confectionery often didn’t satisfy his quality control standards. When he was asked to supply dessert for a holiday party, he decorated chocolate strawberries to rival those he’d carefully surveilled through glass in both appearance and flavor. By age 13, he’d launch his own dessert business, Zac’s Sweet Shop. Within the year, he was crafting hundreds of platters for holiday parties, care packages and catering most of his high school’s graduation soirees — hustling his way through 12-hour days by his mid-teens. Zac derives his continued drive from a desire to “reinvent the wheel” when it comes to nostalgic flavor. Each cake batter cookie is crafted to conjure memories of sugar-induced laughter; every Oreo-encased cookie a portal to care and consequence-free world. Each sweet is a product of Zac’s unique upbringing, layered with his intention that everyone should have access to bite-sized nostalgia. As it turns out, the recipe for happiness only really calls for chocolate, caramel, and a healthy smattering of rainbow sprinkles.Read their story
