Mary McRae's illustrations celebrate life - past and present - along the coast and and rural communities. My illustrations capture the essence of quintessential coastal communities and life on land and sea. What began as a single travel poster has evolved into a complete line of cards and art prints. I have been drawn to vernacular architecture for as long as I can remember – seeking out the old white clapboard churches, fraternal halls, schoolhouses, barns, covered bridges, farmhouses and capes – mostly showing signs of their age but still holding on and playing a vital role within the community. Living on the coast expands that horizon towards the sea - to lighthouses and lobster boats, boat yards and working docks, and the local shops that play a vital role in coastal villages and towns. Each illustration is hand-drawn and painted, and reproduced as high quality giclee art prints and greeting cards.
