Kate Please is an illustrator and designer living on the borders of rural Rutland and Leicestershire. Originally trained in fashion, a love of textiles and surface design is obvious in her textured, mark making illustrative style. All illustrations are inspired by the beautiful rural British countryside. They feature some of the most iconic and best loved British animals and capture the beauty of wild hedgerows and native flowers. Each drawing is created using a traditional nibbed calligraphy pen and black ink, using these simple traditional tools brings a unique handwriting to the work. If you look closely, you can see each artwork is made up of thousands and of tiny strokes, marks and scratches that build up the texture and character of the subject. All products are drawn, developed and made in the UK, working closely with small, often family run companies or specialist artist printers who share the same belief in craftsmanship, attention to detail and environmental awareness. Working with these like-minded companies helps to recreate the artworks with integrity and produce beautiful fine bone china, home textiles and paper goods.
