von der Thannen GmbH is a company based in Vorarlberg, Austria. The story of the “von der Thannen” began almost 130 years ago in the Bregenzerwald. In 1892, Kaspar Ignaz von der Thannen founded an embroidery with five long and one short embroidery machine. It has thus become the most important ship sticker in the Bregenzerwald and remained so until the decline of this industry. Craftsmanship is of particular importance in the Bregenzerwald and was a welcome employer for the predominantly rural regions. The so-called stickferggers were responsible for delivering the goods and collecting and delivering them to the exporter in Switzerland. Only the highest quality was accepted. Embroidery spread very quickly in Vorarlberg. Wage orders from Switzerland achieved a high economic significance, especially for the mountain regions of the Bregenzerwald. Emperor Francis I confirmed the privilege of embroidery finishing services in 1818. The cotton fabric and embroidery thread could be imported duty-free. Like your ancestors, the company “von der Thannen” made it its task to present the highest quality to its customers in the form of bedding and accessories with their own designs. The collection features only the finest fabrics from Austria and Italy.
