Behind Handlebars is a photographic art project founded in Copenhagen in 2015 by cyclist and Copenhagen Oliver Emil Andersen. The realization Oliver had a couple of years ago was that he didn't really know his city of Copenhagen, Denmark. He knew because he had lived his whole live, but he took the details for granted; the architecture, the views, and everything that makes Copenhagen unique. So Oliver decided he wanted to change that. He wanted to get that feeling of wonder and curiosity that you get when you visit a city for the first time. So one day in 2015, Oliver grabbed his bike and decided to go see some of the attractions that tourists see when they visit Copenhagen. And instead of just pedalling past them as he normally did, he stopped. Stopped and actually looked at his city. It was wonderful! That specific experience sparked something in him and created the foundation and vision for Behind Handlebars - Oliver wanted to share his city of Copenhagen from a perspective that was uniquely Danish: from behind the handlebars of a bike. The art you see here is an ode to cycling in its many forms, to the Scandinavian way of life and Nordic design traditions. A Life Behind Handlebars.
