Every summer, Mamie Lou would hang the sheets in the garden before the rest of the house was awake. By the time we came downstairs, the whole garden smelled like something you couldn’t name but would never forget. I have been trying to bottle that smell ever since. LAVOIR is as close as I ever got. La Lessive began as a way to honour the women who shaped my idea of care — the everyday kind passed down through family, home and habit. This first collection is especially for my grandmother, Mamie Lou, and the memory of late-summer sheets drying outside in her garden.
