Every collection is an amalgamation of timeless statement pieces inspired from global cultural nuances. ‘MAYU’ is derived from ‘Mayura’, which in Japanese means ‘gentleness’ and ‘superiority’. We are committed to creating and delivering products and experiences that are superior in terms of quality, aesthetics, functionality, durability, sharing of global cultural narratives - all while being gentle to our people and planet. Mayura is from India and spent about 10 years in the US to study Engineering and Management. She has worked in the auto and aerospace industries but has always been drawn to product design and fashion. She started her first business of handmade fine jewellery at age 13. MAYU was conceptualised after Mayura took a trip to Iceland and discovered fish leather as a sustainable alternative to exotic leather - made from discarded fish skins that are a byproduct of the food industry and which has been a Nordic tradition for 5000+ years. MAYU has also launched vegan accessories made from up-cycled pineapple leaves and are expanding to other vegan material options.
