About Pine Bones

Pinebones is the work of Holls Walck, a queer illustrator based in the remote Southwest. Originally from the coastal Northeast, Walck relocated to focus on a practice rooted in lived experience within wild landscapes. Drawing from time spent living solo in the backcountry, their work reflects an intimate connection to a sense of place, primarily focusing on regional wildlife, native plants, shifting weather, dark skies and lunar rhythms. Their stylized linework and forms are shaped by the region’s landscape and geology, flowing sandstone curves, rivers that run like veins through stone, and the dancing lines of heat rising off the desert floor. Each piece is a collection of moments, spanning minutes to weeks, a layered collage of experience, memory, and place, created for those who feel most at home in the natural world. Read their story
