Kayds was born in New York, but grew up in Lagos, Nigeria. She received a BA in Journalism and women studies from the Penn State University. The journey with Shea Tribe started in 2016. When people think of shea butter, they just think of it in a brown bag with a nasty smell or a great big plastic bulky container. We're committed to making a shea butter range that smells amazing and also comes in simple, stunning, eco-friendly packaging. Our shea nuts are from Nigeria. Nigeria is actually the largest supplier, producing about 60% of the world's supply. Because of that, I felt like that was very important for me to focus on that particular ingredient and find a way to bridge the gap between Africa and the rest of the world. Our shea butter is made in the tiny village of in Nigeria. These women are literally picking the nuts by hand and carrying it on their heads from the village and in to time it arrives at our headquarters in Lagos in no time .
