Seattle born & raised, Sukie is the proud daughter of 2 Waldorf School artists. Encouraged from a young age to explore the world, Sukie spent 4 years in Atlanta, GA becoming a cum laude graduate of Spelman College then venturing on to travels across Brazil, Europe, East Africa and the Caribbean. In her adult years, after witnessing the high stress environments of 9-5 culture in LA, she opted to channel the aromatic essence of her global travels in to high-quality candles. Candles for her are a vehicle by which we can come to know deeper levels of relaxation, self love and sensuality. She spent 2 years in her kitchen perfecting the science of her craft as a self-taught candlemaker, specifically looking to attain the “perfect burn”- candles which she describes as emitting strong fragrance while burning evenly every time, and leaving no residue. Hand poured in small batches of 3, each of her candles are crafted with domestic soy wax using high quality fragrances free of phthalates, carcinogens or reproductive toxins banned in California's Prop 65 list. Sukie's Candle Co. is a 100% independently female black owned and operated business that proudly employs other women of color. Her work has been featured in Vogue Magazine, British GQ, Black Enterprise and more within her first year of business. Read their story
