Amani Coffee Company began with a simple but aspirational mission: help coffee farmers in difficult regions by using economic development to promote peace and prosperity. n brief, Amani Coffee is a Chicago-based coffee company that is doing more than coffee, we pour positivity. We deliver conscious consumers the best coffee with purpose. A typical cup of coffee has 5 transactions between farmer and consumer. This means the farmer gets very little pay and the consumer pays for all the middlemen. To solve this, we (1 American and 1 dual US-Congolese citizen) traveled to the Democratic Republic of Congo to form our own cooperative. We promised to pay all our farmers (almost 2200 farmers in our cooperative, with 850 of them being women) above market and EQUAL wages for their coffee. This is the first time anywhere in DRC where this is happening. We then import, roast, and sell direct to consumers. We also donate back to a charity we formed in DRC that builds infrastructure where our farmers live. By integrating the entire supply chain from “Congo to Cup” we deliver better coffee for the consumer, better lives for our farmers, and a better world for all of us. All our coffee is organic, sustainable farmed, and specialty grade.
