About Makura Organic Olive Oil

Located in the Carmel Heights in northern Israel and established in 1979, Makura is one of the first farms in Israel to grow organic olives. Father and son Guy and Stav Rilov intentionally use minimal irrigation to produce flavorful olive oil, high in antioxidants. The Rilovs have learned that too much irrigation reduces antioxidant levels. Guy Rilov says that he is farming for antioxidants as much as for delicious olive oil. Guy and Stav are dedicated to high quality and environmental stewardship. Certified organic by the AGRIOR, the Israeli certifying agency recognized by the USDA. Kosher supervision by Gabriel Sorani, Regional Rabbi of the Carmel Heights. In Israel, Makura supplies more than 100 specialty food stores. We import four varieties from Makura: Arbequina, Coratina, Koroneiki and a variety native to the Galilee called Souri. We import 500ml and 750ml tins of olive oil, and glass jars of green Souri olives. Makura has two labels. The original Makura label is a mix of Hebrew and English. The Holy Land Harvest label is completely English and has biblical verse. The label describes how Makura is near Mount Carmel where the Prophet Elijah challenged the pagan prophets of Baal (Kings 1.18). We call our import company Israeli Harvest.
