AMMA means mother in Tamil and Sinhalese the two languages spoken in Sri Lanka. We are a social enterprise that exists to provide sustainable employment to mothers living on Sri Lanka's tea estates. AMMA was founded by Josie Mackenzie, a Central Saint Martins trained textile designer and weaver, who devotedly leads AMMA in partnership with our local Sri Lankan all-female team. We aim to be a model for rural livelihood creation which empowers women and protects mother earth.
