Moonchild is a women-owned social impact small business based in Brooklyn and Istanbul. We sell house socks (patik) designed and manufactured by Anatolian women. Patiks are a cultural heritage item that have been designed by women since the 7th century BC in Anatolia and Mesopotamia. Each item is unique and designed with motifs that are reflective of the imagination and creativity of women living in different parts of Turkey. The goal of our business is to record and preserve women’s cultural heritage, tell the story behind these artistic creations which played an important role in shaping cultural identity, values, memory and heritage and empower women both economically and socially in society. It is a part of our business to give back to our community in Brooklyn. Our local partner is a local NGO “Institute For Community Living” and every year, we donate our slippers to a women's shelter in our neighborhood in Brooklyn. We also partner with “Knock knock give a sock” and donate socks during mother’s day for women in shelters. We work with women in Anatolia, empower them and give back to women in NY.
