Shop Refugee employees legally-resettled refugee women in the Phoenix Valley. Our seamstresses have originated from countries all around the world, including Afghanistan, Myanmar, and Ethiopia. These women create unique and beautifully crafted handmade products almost exclusively from repurposed materials. Our eco-friendly material sourcing also allows the artisans to take home 95% of every sale price. Some of our seamstresses came to us with sewing experience of their own, but many had never used a sewing machine before and are receiving their first training in our program. For many of our seamstresses, this is their first job and an important step in their journey to self-sufficiency. Shop Refugee’s unique model not only offers honorable employment and training, but the opportunity to build friendships with cultural insiders -- an important step in the process of acclimating to life in America.
