In short, one from here. A true Bavarian with Iroscottish roots. The name SLYRS is Gaelic and has Iro-Scottish roots. But SLYRS is Bavarian through and through. For in 779, five monks from Ireland and Scotland founded a monastery in the Bavarian wasteland of Schliersee. Adalung, Hiltupalt, Kerpalt, Antonius and Otakir call this monastery SLYRS, correctly pronounced SCHLIERS, by the way. Over the centuries, SLYRS Abbey gave the entire Schliersee region its name, and 1220 years later it also gave a very special Upper Bavarian single malt whisky. It all starts with a bet: The trained brewer and master distiller Florian Stetter goes on a study trip to Scotland with his fellow master craftsmen. He is surprised by the similarities he discovers with his native Upper Bavaria: mountains, clear water and wonderfully pure air. He bets with his colleagues for a case of wheat beer that first-class whiskey can also be distilled in Upper Bavaria — and he wins. Read their story
