About The Red Sari by Jennings & Allen

The Red Sari is an ethical design company partnering with artisan groups in South Asia to bring to bring beautiful, sustainable fashion accessories to our retail partners. Creating jobs for women in this region of the world not only provides income but can teach decision-making skills and elevate their status within their families and communities. Red Sari was founded in 2008 by Julie West after a grad school project working with a women's felting cooperative in Kathmandu, Nepal. Our team developed their signature product - the vintage sari scarf - launching a keen interest in recycling and reimagining saris and other global textiles. We have subsequently partnered with a WFTO member in Kolkata, India that supports numerous craft units around that country. The Red Sari won the 2019 Community Impact Award at the International Folk Art Market in Santa Fe, NM. The award recognizes artist cooperatives which positively contribute to social change and economic development in their communities. Today Red Sari is operated by Colvin English and Steven Armijo as the wholesale arm of their artisan based retail store in Seal Beach, CA - Jennings & Allen. Read their story
