I was never really a runner. Over the years I had run off and on, when I would get inspired to lose some weight and get in shape, but it never lasted long. That changed in late 2010 when I decided it was finally time to set a big fitness goal, and I started training for my first half marathon. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy. My wife and I had a young child at the time as well as a full time job with travel, emails and endless meetings, so the only time I could train was early in the morning, long before the sun came up. The first morning of my training was exciting! I jumped out of bed, got on my running clothes and shot out the door. Then I realized just how dark it is outside at 5am. I was not prepared, I had nothing—no light, reflectors, or safety vest. With only the moonlight I could barely see. I wasn’t going through that again, so I bought the only option at my local running store: a headlamp. After a few times using it I realized I hated wearing a headlamp. It was uncomfortable and annoying, so I would simply hold the headlamp in my hand while running. I thought it worked even better than wearing on my head, so I searched online for running lights that could be worn on your hands. I couldn’t find anything so I decided to create Knuckle Lights!
