Our Shells Our oyster shells are sustainably sourced from hardworking Maine oyster farmers, while supporting Maine aquaculture. Each fresh oyster is hand selected for consistency in shell size, shape, weight, thickness, color and feel. The oysters are hand shucked and the delicious meat preserved. The shells endure a rigorous sanitizing process over several days, then fresh air dried. The back sides of the shells are generously brushed with a non-toxic acrylic clear coat gloss to highlight and showcase the natural beauty, color and layers of each unique shell while leaving a subtle shiny finish. Each shell is then delicately decoupaged with the finest images, hand gilded with a classic gold leaf, and finished with a final coat of clear gloss.
