Laine Berina Ceramics was born from a simple desire — to get my hands dirty. Porcelain, as a material, embodied a tangible, stable result and a process that felt true and alive. My studio found its home in my grandparents' former apartment after they passed away. Transforming this space into a creative sanctuary felt natural — a way to let life and stories continue within these walls. When I first began studying ceramics, I wanted to change the way people in Latvia perceived the craft. Back then, for those not involved in the arts, ceramics was mostly associated with earthy tones, traditions, clay, and pots. At least, that’s how it felt to me. Introducing pastels was my own small act of rebellion — a way to make ceramics brighter, more playful, and full of life. What seemed unusual then has quietly become part of the modern ceramic palette, but for me, it was always about lightness, freshness, and an expression of joy. Each piece is created using the slip-casting technique, and every vessel is finished by hand. I focus on lightness, clarity, and meticulous attention to detail. Objects should be tactile — smooth and pleasant to hold. When form, color, and function merge harmoniously, coffee tastes better, dessert feels more special, and everyday meals turn into rituals.
