This bright pink faience jug is a souvenir from Peneda-Gerês National Park in northern Portugal, one of the most beautiful natural regions of the Iberian Peninsula. The inscription “Recordação do Gerês, Portugal” is applied in gold letters on the back, recalling an era when travel souvenirs were quality objects made to last. Its flared, truncated-conical shape, pinched pouring spout and flattened ribbon handle form a classic silhouette of the Portuguese water jug. The glossy bright pink glaze, highlighted with two gold bands, frames a polychrome bouquet of flowers in red, yellow and blue tones on a reserved white background. The interior is glazed in glossy ivory-white. Height approximately 13 cm. In excellent condition, glaze intact, gilding well preserved.
