Ethiopia is the country of origin of coffee and the only one in the world where wild plants are found. The Harenna Forest, one of the largest in Ethiopia, is located in the mountains of the magnificent Bale National Park, 350 kilometers south of the capital Addis Ababa. Arabica coffee grows spontaneously at an altitude of about 1800 meters. Every family, for thousands of years, has been going to the forest, collecting cherries, drying them in the sun on hanging beds, roasting them, pounding them in a mortar and offering coffee to guests following an atavistic ceremony, a solemn rite, with a strong symbolism of respect and hospitality. The Harenna Wild Coffee Presidium involves 60 families, promotes the shortening of the supply chain, the protection of quality and the territory and guarantees dignity and just recognition to the people involved.
