Icon of the Mother of God "Support of Humble" ("Look for humility", "Call to Humility") This Orthodox icon depicts the Mother of God “Look Upon Humility”, one of the most revered and miraculous Marian icons of modern times. The original holy image is preserved in the Vvedensky Men’s Monastery in Kyiv, Ukraine, and is especially venerated for the extraordinary miracle revealed through it in the late 20th century. The icon dates to the second half of the 19th century. Its early history is closely connected with the Vvedensky Monastery and the faithful priest Fr. Boris Kvasnitsky, who entrusted the icon for safekeeping to the nun Theophania (Totskaya) during years of persecution. Through decades of hardship, closures of monasteries, and exile, the icon was carefully preserved and eventually returned to the Vvedensky Monastery in 1992. In 1993, a remarkable miracle occurred. The icon appeared darkened under glass, but when the frame was removed, it was discovered that the image itself had not changed. Instead, a precise silver-gray imprint of the Mother of God and the Christ Child had appeared on the inner surface of the glass, perfectly mirroring the holy image. Extensive scientific examinations conducted by leading research institutes in Kyiv confirmed that the image on the glass was not man-made, organic in nature, and cannot be explained or reproduced by modern science. Scholars unanimously recognized it as one of the great miracles of the 20th century. The icon’s name, “Look Upon Humility,” reflects the heartfelt prayer of the faithful, asking the Most Holy Theotokos to look mercifully upon human weakness, repentance, and suffering. Before this icon, believers pray for humility, forgiveness of sins, inner peace, healing, and divine protection in times of trial. The feast days of the icon are celebrated on August 1 and September 29 (New Style).
