Kelley and I are both from small Texas towns with deep German and Czech roots, roots that are still obvious even today. We made our first Czech flag Texas for a friend out of wood reclaimed from her grandmother’s house, which had been damaged in the Westfertilizer plant explosion in 2013. The response was overwhelming, and we knew we were onto something. But neither of us are of German or Czech ancestry, so it got us thinking about other flag-inspired pieces that we could do to represent Texas’ rich history.
