History & symbolism Discovered in the 18th century on the Labrador Peninsula in Canada, from which it takes its name, Labradorite was revered by the Inuit peoples who considered it a fragment of the aurora borealis fallen to Earth. In many shamanic traditions, it is used as a stone of protection and vision. It symbolizes magic, transformation, and the passage between worlds. Traditional virtues According to crystal healing, Labradorite is traditionally associated with energetic protection — practitioners attribute to it the ability to filter out negative external influences and preserve inner balance. It would accompany periods of change or introspection, and is reputed to support intuition and clarity. The stone Labradorite is a plagioclase feldspar (tectosilicate family), triclinic crystal system, hardness 6 to 6.5. Its characteristic optical phenomenon — labradorescence — produces blue, green, golden and sometimes orange reflections by diffraction of light within internal layers.
