The noble and precious pod, also called "Gorria" (Basque for the Red), delights star chefs worldwide with its particularly aromatic, slightly smoky note. The heat level is between 1,500 and 2,500 Scoville. Since the year 2000, the name "Piment d’Espelette" has been regionally protected.
