'Peonies in Flora Jug' by Susie Hamilton I’ve always admired peonies, they are just so scrumptiously luxurious! I started growing my own a few years ago, to me they are a true sign that the longest days are here and summer is now in full swing. Traditionally peonies symbolise prosperity, good luck, love and honour, so that might explain why they make a wonderful gift. I loved painting these flouncy blooms and here I’ve tried to capture their richness in colour as well as their majestic presence. The Flora jug is a favourite on our dresser, I love its periwinkle blue tones on the creamy background, and my grandmother was called Flora, so it makes it even more special to me.
