Description

Dream tea is pure Sri Lankan blue lotus — whole dried flowers, nothing added, nothing extracted. Grown, harvested, and dried by local families. This is the flower itself, loose, to be steeped. Whole flower, not extract This is the distinction that matters when choosing between our two blue lotus products. Dream tea is the intact dried flower: petals, stamens, the whole head. You steep it, you watch the water turn, you drink it. The dose is whatever the flower gives, which varies a little from cup to cup and from harvest to harvest — as it does with any whole plant. Our Dream gummies are the other approach: a standardised 50 mg extract, the same in every piece. Neither is better. The tea is a practice; the gummy is a measurement. We wrote about how to choose. How to brew it * Hot infusion. One to two flowers per cup. Water just off the boil, steeped 5 to 10 minutes. Longer draws more out; it will not turn bitter the way tea leaves do. * Cold infusion. Flowers in cool water, refrigerated overnight. Softer, more floral, and the traditional preparation in several lineages. * As a latte. Steep strong, then add warm milk. Recipe here. * Caffeine-free. 113 g of loose whole flowers per package. A note on timing: blue lotus is traditionally taken in the evening, and its association with dreaming means most people work with it before sleep rather than in the morning. Blue lotus in traditional medicine Nymphaea caerulea is one of the most thoroughly depicted plants in the ancient world. It appears throughout dynastic Egyptian art — held to the nose in tomb paintings, carved into column capitals, strewn across banquet scenes. Egyptian practice included steeping the flowers in wine, which we now understand would have extracted compounds that water alone does not reach as readily. The flower recurs across South and Southeast Asian iconography too, in Indian and Nepalese depictions where the blue water lily carries associations with the awakened mind. In Sri Lanka, where ours grows, it is the national flower. Across these traditions the associations are consistent: dream, vision, the threshold state between waking and sleep, and a quality of emotional openness. It is a flower of the evening and of the inward turn. The pathways: what the research examines, and what it doesn't Blue lotus is less studied than kava or caapi, and it is worth being clear about where the knowledge actually comes from: * The alkaloids. The flower contains aporphine alkaloids, principally apomorphine and nuciferine.
